Arachnid by Alessandro Criscito

Dear Friends.

My name is Alessandro Criscito, industrial designer and visual artist, located in Santiago de Chile. I share with my esteemed editorial committee my last work in Design of Conceptual Furniture, proposing new functional system of interaction with the designs. In this way, make a note, publication or collaboration in your magazine or various broadcast channels.

Arachnid.

It is a cabinet that was born based on the observation of spiders and their system of capture of prey and protection of predators, known as "spider webs". In this system, spiders biosynthesize and secrete, through their spinning glands in the back of the abdomen, a sticky silk.

Inspired by this concept, the Arachnid cabinet proposes an innovative functional system, which reinvents the conventional system of storage and display of objects on fixed surfaces. The Arachnid system is based on tensioned elastic ropes, which, being thin and light, "trap" the objects leaving them "suspended" inside them, just as spiders do with their prey.

This generates a new archetype when it comes to storing and displaying objects, this time, the support is totally moldable and adjustable by the user. Although the elastic cords wrap the objects from different angles, at the same time, they show a fraction of a lot of these and in a totally original and innovative way.

Arachnid, is not the typical allegory in furniture inspired by a spider, but rather, an innovative functional system based on its survival method
